Dr Chalmers Path to Pro - Change for Charlie
When big events shake us, it’s easy to feel moved in the moment but let that feeling fade with time. This message is a gentle push to act on those convictions now, whether that means praying more, setting aside time to read, or making small positive changes in daily life.
It also reminds us that staying silent can sometimes speak louder than words. By choosing to live out faith in simple, consistent ways, we can honor what truly matters and carry those lessons forward in a real, lasting way.

Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:00:04] All right, so, you know, I've heard the expression that time heals all wounds, and that might be accurate to some degree, however, what I do know is that time dulls emotion. If everybody's ever been to a church retreat or revival, and it was really, really great, and everybody had a good time, and you felt really moved by the Holy Spirit, and you decided you were going to do some stuff, and then you got back, and got back to normal life. Things were normal for long enough and just kind of dissipated. What we see a lot is that time blunts emotional function, the blunts drive. Um, and so if you were moved by any of the things that have happened and around the assassination of Charlie Kirk, um, and it made you want to do something, do it, do that thing, um the, you know, I've I've never put scripture into any of these talks and it's never been a part of what I've done. You know, while I've been, you know, I always make mention of God, you know, the power that made the body heals the body and I talk about how the body was designed and how the life was created. I've ever really kind of put this, the Christian portion of who I am or what not out in a strong portion of what I do. And so that's one of the things that I want to start trying to do.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:29] And the reason that I said, you know, you should start looking for those changes. You can make now, however small or big, depends on how person you are. You should do that now. Um, and the scripture that I found on that one is, uh, James four 17, if anyone then knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them. So if God puts something in your heart to change because of any of the things that are surrounding, uh Charlie Kirk's assassination. Do it, even if it's a small thing, if you're like, I don't pray every day, great. That's a super easy one in theory. Put it on your calendar. Be like, okay, it's like, when I do it, I get up every time I do, I get out, let the dogs out, get their food ready. When they come back in, I go to the gym and I pray every morning. That's how I fit it in my life. I was like, you gotta have a time to do it. So this is when it's gonna be. And so that's when I did mine. That's when my pray. And so now the thing I'm going to try to do is I'm gonna try to incorporate more scripture into what I'm doing. You know, I've talked to a couple of people who were mentioning that, you know, if your preacher doesn't talk about Charlie's assassination, what it meant to them and what it means to the church or what it mean to Christians, you should find another church. Um, that is not a terrible thing to say. Um,.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:02:55] This particular post that was out, um, somebody specifically mentioned that, um it's, uh, it's very tribal and it's not a great idea. It is a hundred percent travel. It is. Um However, I think that you should evaluate which tribes it's setting up. It is setting up two different tribes of the, what Charlie did, who Charlie really was and why Charlie was actually assassinated and why he should be put into the martyrdom category is important. When we evaluate that he was not a political person first, he was a Christian first. He was preaching the gospel first and it was how the gospel fit into the conservative function was how and what he was talking about that was that was what it was and the fact the reason that everybody hated him the way they did the reason he got the pushback that he did and that ultimately the reason why he was assassinated was because of his Christian ideals not his conservative ideals not to his Republican ideas his Christian ideals. So You can either talk about how his Christian ideals, how he lived his life knowing that what he was doing was putting his life in jeopardy, but he didn't care because the message of Christ was more important to him than his own life. You can talk about that, and you can talk how great that is, and you talk about fantastic it is. You can tell about all the great he's done. Look at the Christians that he's taught, look at the massive, massive positive changes he's made in college campuses and across the United States and across world.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:04:28] The UK had a giant, I don't know if you guys saw this, they had a giants, giant movement about what's going on in their country and their political suppression of free speech. And they, you know, and they talked about Charlie and all the things that he's done to help them and everything else around that. So this was a worldwide movement. This was a big deal for everybody, even the non-believers and the people on the fence. There were a lot of people who were on the fences that chose to come over because of his assassination, in terms of what happened. Um, and for a preacher to stand up and not talk about it, to choose silence over talking about any part of what's going on. I think set you into two different tribes. So yeah, it is tribal. It is the, we're going to talk about what Charlie did and who he was and why he did it and why that's important to the Christian faith, or we're going to stand in silence. We're going honor what he did. We're gonna honor what He said and what He stood for. We're going to ignore it and act like it wasn't there. Because guess what you get more of? You always get more of the things you praise and you get less when you don't talk about them. When something is worthy of praise and you talk about it and you hold it up and you glorify it, you get more of it. When you don't talk about the great things that are hard to do, you'll get less of it.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:05:55] So for a preacher to not Talk about this uh, free for preacher to not, to, to choose silence over char over talking about Charlie, I think tells a lot about no matter how big the church is, no matter, how great the preacher is, that's where it is. Um, I will tell you that I go to St. Andrews and I love St. Andrews. And Arthur shows silence this week over talking about char. And so I'm going to send an email and be like, is there a reason? Like, what's going on? Like, why did you choose silence over Charlie? Um, and it might very well mean that that's that just shows me it's not a place I need to be in more church wise. Um, because it really, I think it goes to the heart of what matters to you as a preacher and a person as an Christian. If you feel like you need to do something to change, do it now, because there's your scripture. There's the James, James 417. Basically it says, if anyone then knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them. So if you know what's in your path, you know, what's on your heart, and you know that that change would be good for you, your family, the people around you, and you choose not to make that change, that's a problem. If it's a small change, make a small change, if it's big change, make a big change. Whatever that change is, make it. Like I've never talked about this stuff. I've never put Chris structure and any of the things I've talked about. It's been, I say it's important to me, but I don't talk about it. I talk every morning and I don't ever talk about.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:07:36] So here you go. This is the change on me. So if you guys have some changes you can make in your life. If you guys haven't been speaking out, speak out a little bit, you know? If you haven't read your Bible every day, read your book, read the book for 15 minutes. There was a study that came out, we were talking about this in Project Reforge, with the veterans we're working with, there was a research thing that came up that said that people who read, I'm gonna have to go get it so I can get the numbers right. But it was something all in effect of people who read the Bible for 15 minutes every single day, had a 40% decrease and all the press of functional symptoms. So it's pretty significant. Just may just read the book. So, you know, there's, there're lots and lots of benefit to it. Read the book, pray, and these are things you get to do all by yourself. And here's the thing. This is the thing, you don't Christy said this in one of our, one of our calls that I thought was spectacular. You know, people are worried about asking questions. They're worried about asking the hard questions or worried about saying things and being like, this is why I don't understand things. This is why. I might not believe you need to talk about those things. You need to ask those questions. And you might not ask, right? Like, don't ask me, ask Nathan. That's Christy. You might you not need to figure out who's the best person to ask.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:08:58] But if something is real, you can ask any honest question you want to. No matter how damning, no matter how difficult, no matter what, and there might not be an answer to it, yes or no. You are allowed to ask all those questions, specifically in the Christian faith. That is the thing. Ask all your questions. If it's true, it's truth no matter what. And if it's false, sooner or later we'll figure it out. But that's the thing, so, you know, if this has spurred you to make some type of change, make it. You know, I'm not saying that you gotta change churches or, you now, start going to church. And just because you pick one church doesn't mean that's best church for you. Find six or seven, figure out which one's the best and go to those things. Start reading your Bible, start praying. Do something. There's lots of guys out talking about stuff that are way better than I am. Take those things. Take those motivations. Or just start watching Charlie stuff. Charlie did an amazing job of making things real and explaining them. So just follow him and just start watch his stuff. I mean, like, all right.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:10:02] And if you have questions about ask. You know, not me, because I probably are my family. If it's a health thing, ask me. I hope that's my fact. But if it's a scripture thing, I can't help you on that one. Find somebody who can. The person I go to all the time is Nathan Rossi. Man, that guy is ridiculous. That guy knows. It's funny, though, I love talking to Nathan because you'll ask Nathan about a line of scripture, like seven words, and he'll give you 90 minutes on it. I'm not kidding. They'll be like, well, you have to understand the context of the time, what it all meant. And like this word means this in Hebrew, but it means this and Greek. And if you take that word apart, it means this and this and now you understand a bit more clarity. And you're like, I do now understand. How do you know the entire Bible in Greek and Hebrew and in English? It's unbelievable. But find those guys who know what you're talking about.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:10:56] Like I said, Nathan does some stuff all the time. Nathan Rossi, Recalibrate 360. I don't know how else you guys are gonna find him. But follow his stuff. The guy is amazing at what he does. But make your changes. We're all gonna be sooner or later called on to, what did you do? How did you it? And we get little wake up calls here and there, and this is a pretty big one. So if you feel like you want to make some changes, make some changes and you feel like you need some help making some changes. Find somebody to help you out, but you know, don't wait because everything that, you know it's an emotional thing a month from now, you're probably not going to feel the same way you do today. So you're going to make some changes make them. If you guys have any questions, questions at ChalmersWellness.com. You guys have anything else I'll talk about in the days.
