Dr Chalmers Path to Pro - Chemistry over Calories
Health, weight loss, and building muscle aren’t just about “calories in, calories out.” The body doesn’t actually run on calories it runs on chemistry. Things like hormones, nutrient absorption, and metabolism have a much bigger impact than simply tracking numbers on a food label. That’s why so many people struggle to see results when they only focus on calories.
It explains why calorie counting isn’t the full picture and looks at better ways to approach nutrition. It touches on body types, blood sugar balance, gut health, and how different foods affect people in different ways. The main idea is that there isn’t one perfect diet for everyone the best results come from finding what works for your body.

Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:00:05] Alright, so I want to start the sauce as we're going through all the the fasting stuff and we're going through, all the cutting stuff I'm doing. I want make sure that we, I tossed this one out just because I want, to make sure, that everybody saw this one too. When we start talking about health, when we start to talk about fat loss, when you talk about muscle creation, you have to understand that the chemistry is pretty set and it's one of those things that we have a lot of research on and so we need to start kind of understanding that the chemistry that we know is the chemistry we should be going with. This idea that the body runs on calories is not only laughable, it's sad. Your body doesn't run on calories. Calories are kind of made up nonsense. Any system that you're going to use that says that fiber, sugar, and starch, and protein are all worth the same as far as getting fat, getting healthy, building muscle, whatever, is a cert. Um, no one should be using the, the, the calorie system, the medical system pushes the calorie system so that you will have no idea how your body works at all. And so you can't possibly be healthy on your own. Um, and so for confusion and whatnot, to keep you sick, keep you fat and keep you in health, but there's a hundred percent why the medical systems pushes it. That's 100% why it's taught.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:28] The idea. That insulin doesn't matter. The idea that testosterone doesn't matter the idea that the foods you eat directly impact your hormonal function. That is completely lost on everyone because we've been told by the medical system for so long that our body runs on calories. And we should watch our calories and calories in calories out. And, you know, if you eat too many calories, you get fat. And if you don't eat enough calories, You lose fat. So that's how this is more so it's not this is worse at all and I've been screaming this for a long time and everybody's all pissy about it. All the trainers, all the dieticians, all they're all, you're so wrong to buy runs and calories, even though there's not a single calorie in any chemistry equation that we've got. It's all about production of ATP or an instant triphosphate. You make it from fat, you make it sugar. Your blood can only use sugar. There's a whole bunch of this. I've gone through this a whole That is the function. Calories, if you just eat protein, protein power, whey protein powder, you're not gonna get any muscle tissue. Your body requires a lot more than protein to make muscle tissue, it's gotta have the saturated fat, it's gonna have, to build the cell walls, it's got to have the selenium and the magnesium and the, you know, the molybdenum, it's going to have kind of like coquette tan, there's so many things the body has to have, iron, there's many things body has to have to build muscle tissue that the idea that it's just whey protein is absurd.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:02:59] But that's what you're taught when you're talking calories. It's protein, and any protein is the same under the system. Fat, all fat, sorry, it's such a laughable system to me. That saturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, the hydrogenated oils. The short chain fatty acids, the medium chain fatty acids, all the subs can be picked up and utilized through kind of the micron function. Oh, but those are all the same. Those are all nine. Those were all the same. And I'm sorry, it's just the most absurd system in the world. And if anybody would like to come on and defend their calories in calories out system and thing, I would love it. But no one ever will. I always ask these guys who berate me online about it, come come, come on. Educate me and educate the world. Teach us how a calorie system is superior. Teach us how the calorie system works. But nobody will because they know that the calorie system is trash. They're just too lazy to learn how the body actually works. So that's one of the things I'm trying to get across is that if we'll just learn a little bit more it's one those things that you can actually start making functional change with. Yeah and by the way everybody's body is a little bit different. If we're gonna make a shift in any way, let's start to recognize that the research is out. There's a bunch of information that is being lied to, we're being lied about from the medical system about everything about how your healthcare works.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:04:22] So, we're starting to see, not just the calories thing, hopefully some of the big influencers and whatnot, and these Breca guys and all the guys that Jordan Peterson has on all those guys, hopefully sooner or later holds metabolic health. Someone else will come out and be like yeah calories are trash you guys can't be using the calories system the calories in calories out system is terrible i've been doing talk about this for years and i'm the only one who's i've seen who's said anything about it so when you guys start seeing it start recognizing okay i don't care about the credit just start recognizing that's maybe the system you guys should start looking into um so that's one of those big things that we're trying to change the mindset on everybody is very basic The body doesn't run on calories. The calorie system is trash. You cannot use it for health, for wellness, for anything. You just can't. It works okay with mesomorphs, but it's not gonna work at all with any extreme ecto or endos. And if you don't understand ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph, you're kind of lost from the get-go. That's a somatotyping function. So look at somatotyping. That'll help you understand how people are a little bit different. If you think that one diet is gonna work for everybody else on the planet, you are a fool.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:05:35] Um, that's, you know, if you're, if you're eating something that one of your buddies is eating and you're not getting the results they're getting, recognize that they are designed and built differently than you were. And so your system might just need to be put together a little bit differently. And there's ways of doing that. There's ways and putting a diet together that are really beneficial for you. The way that I usually will do it is we'll put, you know, I'll figure out, you know, what are you eating? What do you look like? What's your diet usually consists of? Um you know kind of your pictures if you kind of look at how you are from the somatotyping function and then kind of make a make a guesstimate uh so let's say that you are more on the meso endo endomorph side uh then what we'll usually do is i'll ask you if you've ever done anything like fasting or something like that and how you were and get kind of a hold on you know how your body handles glucose then we might put a cgm on it continuous glucose monitor and we'll put you into like a carnivore diet and I'll see how well your body produces glucose. Your body makes sugar. It has to, because your blood can only run on sugar. And so your body will make it through a process called gluconeogenesis. Your liver gets filled with sugar, that sugar that's leached into the blood to keep the blood functional throughout the day. If we don't get enough sugar in throughout the today, but we're fully fed, then we have to understand that your body doesn't process sugars as well. You know, it doesn't create sugar, sorry, as well.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:07:01] And you can do some things to tweak that back and forth. Typically, what I'll do is I'll just start integrating carbohydrates back into that person's diet so that we equalize the blood function. But we will do it in a lower glycemic function. That's the other thing, you know, if we're going to talk about things, people need to learn some autotyping, glyceamic function. Glycemic functions give me the one that actually affects insulin the most. Insulin is your storage hormone. It can take whatever's in your blood and it's going to tell it to be stored. So what that means is that sugars that are in the blood are gonna be stored in the muscle tissue's glycogen and the liver's glyconogen and then whatever's left is gonna turn into fat. So yeah, sugars equal fat. It's not exactly all the way accurate but it's the closest thing you're gonna get. That's why when people strip sugars out of their diet, they lose weight. Not only do they lose their weight, they lose inflammatory weight and then they lose fat. That's your thing. And what is our medical system saying you should base everything off of? Grains. Carbohydrates. Then we wonder why we're fat and unhealthy. Yeah, because your medical system is set up to make you fat, unhealthy, and sick. That's their whole job. That is their entire point. That why they wouldn't test the vaccines.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:08:12] That' why they're freaking out when you are testing the vaccines? I love how they're like, we don't want the vaccines, we're like you're anti-science. We're asking questions. Anyone who's asking questions is pro-science. Anybody who's asked me questions. I don't even care what the questions are as long as we're actually asking the questions. You know, at the end we're gonna give you an accurate assessment of the information and we're setting the question up properly. So I've read lots and lots of research. It's like, this thing is bad. And you read the research and you're like, this was set up to fail. So, you know, like I read a study about how Everybody knows ADD is depression. And the test they gave was, I hate myself all the time, I hate my self some of the time. I hate me self most of the times. There was no option if I don't ever hate myself. So of course, you're gonna get a test like this, you're going to come up with answers for why these people hate themselves. Because you didn't give them any options not to. So you've got to make sure that when you read the research, you understand where they're driving it. Because a lot of this research that's coming out, especially now, is driven to sell supplements, it's driven to sell ideas, it is driven to sell political function. So be very, very careful with how these things are put together. But we need to start going back to the way the physiology dictates. And so we can start to understand how these things work.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:09:32] Guys, the calorie system doesn't work. There's a lot of other things you got to factor in if you're looking to be healthy and looking to lose weight, gain muscle, that sort of thing. The easiest thing I can tell you is there's a a lot involved in this, but your body has to absorb the nutrients that you're consuming. So your gut has to be on. You've got to have good probiotics, no parasites, you've got clear out the yeast, you've gotta have healthy functionality in the gut, and your stress level has to enough that your body can actually absorb the nutrients from the gut. There's months of information I hear you on those things, but that's the info. And then what you're eating. If you want muscle tissue, eat muscle tissue. I realize this is a super easy concept, but apparently we're missing it. And you are a red meat, people are red blooded. So you're gonna eat red meat because your body requires every single thing that's in that state. These are the type of things as we go through this, I want you guys to start kind of recognizing and holding up is that, you know, a lot of the things that you've been told are lies. And you've be told lies because our medical system and our government doesn't recognize you as people who have, you now, needs and wants, you're just numbers. And. To be cold. So if you guys are looking for this, I was like, you're gonna have to look deeper. You're gonna look into the chemistry, you have to read the stuff.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:11:01] So, you know, like I try to give this information out as much as I can, because I was the fat guy who did everything I was supposed to do and ate all the calorie system perfectly. You'd never figure it out, never lose weight. And then I started reading the research and figured I've been lied to my whole life. This is kind of where a lot of this stuff comes from. So if you really want to start mastering your health and getting a hold of that, you need to drop the calories stuff and you start figuring out what is it that my body actually needs? How do I design the diet for me? How do figure out what my macro set is? How do we figure out what type of best exercise for me is? You know, this is one of the reasons I created this system that I have is to let people through this over a whole month period and teach them what they need to know. Bye now. I can't teach effort, so you've got to deal with your own effort. But as we go through, we'll be able to kind of get everything kind of put back together. So as we watch this, this is one of the big things I want to make sure we came out. If you guys want a more in-depth view of the calories in, calories out, trash versus the metabolic function and how to put together an actual macro-based diet, we can run through that, but it'll take me quite a while to go through. I think I ran through it as quick as I could, and it's going to be 45 minutes. But those are some of the things that we'll start going through.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:12:16] So if you guys don't have questions about, you know, you know, how are we eating the pie and the blueberry dump cake and the chocolate chip cookie dough and the, you know, How are we eating all that stuff? And, you know, we had a whole bunch of still full fruit, you know, a whole bunch of taquitos last night, because I have patients who want savory things since we had an experiment with some new savory stuff. I'll post those today. They were amazing. Then let's go through it. That's some of the stuff I think is the most important thing. Figuring out how to set your diet as a person is extremely important. Once you kind of figure out how do it, you can do it for you, you can for your whole family, and you guys can get where you need to be that's healthiest for you. Unfortunately, the thing we're all gonna have to understand is that there is no diet for people. There's a diet for a person. Vegan's a great diet for certain individuals. Carnivore's great for certain individual. What we're seeing for about, I don't know, 85% of the population, a low sugar diet or a low glycemic diet is the healthiest best diet. However, I've got ectomorphs who can't gain any weight and so we have to give them giant amounts of sugar. To help them assimilate and gain any weight at all.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:13:31] So, like I said, there isn't a diet for human beings. There's a diet a person. Everyone's body was designed and created a little bit differently. But there is a path to figure out, okay, how is your body designed? How does your body run? There's a whole lot of how do you feel? What are your goals? How is your buddy assimilating what we're doing with it? You know, you can go through and check those things off and once you kind of figure out where everybody is, you can be like, look, your body trends better in this direction. So let's keep going in this section and narrow it out until we find out really tight what your diet shouldn't be. This isn't a super difficult process. But it is really, really important. So if you're wondering about your body and how you're gonna put your diet together, start with these things. Start with learning about somatotyping. Just Google somatotypeing, and it'll probably take you, God, it took me probably 20 minutes to figure out all the words to know about somatyping. So it's not a very difficult thing. This is, you know, it's this type of person, this type person, this type a person, but just remember that there's not three sets. It's so you got ecto. Meso, you got ecto-meso, meso-ecto, so it's kind of a gradients right between ecton meso between meso and endo.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:14:46] So understand that that's kind of how it works once you start recognizing the somatotyping function then you're gonna be like oh okay now a quick deal the next thing to learn on that was is glycemic functionality glyceamic index, glyceemic load, those sort of things. So the further you are towards endomorph the lower the glycemic function of your foods needs to be if you want to maintain weight and that type of thing. This is why keto and carnivore and things like this work so well for the big, huge fat guys like me that are over on the endomorph side. Because I brought in chemistry stuff that way. Ectomorphs do really, really well with a high sugar, high glyceamic diet. Mesomorphs, mesomorphs are the guys that you cut their calories back, you get their fuel sources all back, and they will lose fat. They will also lose muscle mass. But that's just kind of what it is. It's a way to shed and gain really easily. Those are the guys that are more or less in the center. So start with those two things. The somatotyping and the glycemic load, glyceamic index, glyceomic function. Those two things will be probably the best things you guys can start with. And then we can start kind of building it from there. But check those things out. I think you're gonna get lots more insight on that than you will from anything from a calories model. But start there. You guys have any other questions?
